Dearest,
It’s one thing to have to listen to you complain about them but when you move from irritated to HATING your parents, it’s a totally different story.
- Your parents are providing for you. Might I remind you of the millions of kids around the world whose parents have already abandoned them? There are kids who no longer have fathers and/or mothers. Even worse, there are kids who have both parents but have been abandoned, abused or simply neglected because they couldn’t be cared for. Not to mention, they’re providing you with MORE than you need. You have a fucking SLR camera, a laptop, funds for your cosplay and your other shit. All of which I doubt was funded by your drawing gigs. Not to mention the debut they threw for you for your 18th birthday. Your costume and accessories, the rent for the place, the food, and everything else needed for the event was PAID BY THEM. And chances are, they threw you the party just because they wanted to celebrate your birthday, not because they had to or you forced them to.
- Your parents don’t abuse you. That involves physical and verbal abuse, by the way (pardon me if I’m not aware of other types of abuses). They do neither of those. They would shout at you and argue with you but I doubt your parents ever laid a hand on you. And just to prove my point, I posted statistics from a website I found.
- Almost 53,000 children died worldwide in 2002 as a result of homicide.
- Up to 80 to 98% of children suffer physical punishment in their homes, with a third or more experiencing severe physical punishment resulting from the use of implements.
- 150 million girls and 73 million boys under 18 experienced forced sexual intercourse or other forms of sexual violence during 2002.
- Between 100 and 140 million girls and women in the world have undergone some form of female genital mutilation/cutting. In sub-Saharan Africa, Egypt and the Sudan, 3 million girls and women are subjected to genital mutilation/cutting every year.
- In 2004, 218 million children were involved in child labour, of whom 126 million were in hazardous work.
- Estimates from 2000 suggest that 1.8 million children were forced into prostitution and pornography, and 1.2 million were victims of trafficking.
- Your parents CARE for you. Your parents, scared that you might do something to yourself (e.g. high school), let you take a leave of absence. Yyour mom even paid for your flight so you can come with her to the beach because you needed to get away from it all. SHE PAID FOR YOUR MOTHERFUCKING TICKET. Do you know how that’s worth? Do you know how much YOUR education is worth? My God, people don’t just pick up 60 - 70K. THEY WORKED HARD FOR THAT SO YOU CAN GO TO A GOOD FUCKING SCHOOL. How do you repay them? You fail most of your classes. Might I also bring up that you tried to run away from home right after that? I don’t see why YOU’RE the one getting upset with your parents when you’re the one who stopped studying in the first place.
- Not to mention, you know they’ll worry about you if something bad happens to you. Remember how your mother reacted when your brother went missing and he wouldn’t anser her messages or her calls? I’d like to think you were angry because he worried your parents not because he took your camera with him. Why did I bring this up? It’s because you’re their kid too. Without a doubt, if something like that happens to you, they’ll worry like hell as well. If worrying about their well-being isn’t enough to show that you love someone, I don’t know what will.
I know you’re going through something difficult. I get it, you have issues. Don’t be too hard on your parents. Remember, your parents are from a different generation. The things that have been raised during your arguments are things that didn’t exist during their time. Or at least, the general public wasn’t aware of it. You don’t understand why they’re reacting like that because nowadays, it’s much more commonplace. But remember where they’re coming from, like how you’d constantly remind everyone that there’s more than one perspective to ANYTHING.
God, I wish you’d take your own advice sometimes. Before you start fuming, remember, not everyone thinks like you. So shut up and think for a minute, wil you?
